Golf Balls & Grapes

On October 6, 2006, Ramona Valley became an official wine region when the Federal Taxation and Trade Bureau designed it an American Viticultural Area (AVA).  Prior to Prohibition, the Ramona region was home to hundreds of acres of quality wine grapes.  Now, once again, the 89,000+ acres in Ramona have been re-discovered as an excellent area to produce award-winning grapes for personal or professional growers.  This AVA designation is another enticement for homeowners and investors to put down roots in Ramona, in The Valley of the Sun.   The wineries are always looking for available land to lease to plant additional grape vineyards so you have a great opportunity to have the look of a producing vineyard without all the labor and management of the grove.  Or, you can jump in and join the local vintners and develop your own unique, special blend of wines grown from your Ramona grapes.

To date there are more than 20 commercial vineyards, 8 bonded wineries, and two tasting rooms open to the public.  Other vineyards and wineries are being developed in the valley, and the members of the Ramona Valley Vineyards Association are excited about the potential to produce high quality wines here in Ramona.  To learn more, please visit www.ramonavalleyvineyards.org

We are fortunate to live in The Valley of The Sun because of the beautiful surrounding and the sunny weather.  Nestled amongst our hills and mature oaks lie some of the most challenging golf courses in the country.  San Diego Country Estate Resort www.sanvicenteresort.com   offers an excellent golf course experience plus lodging and fine dining.  SDCE is a lovely subdivision of about 4,000 custom homes, each of which is located on about ½ acre lot.  Views can be spectacular and golf carts are allowed on our streets during daylight hours.  Many homes abut the golf course for those who want to live, breathe, and enjoy golf 24 hours a day.  Mt. Woodson is another Ramona subdivision with the majority of homes facing the various greens of the gorgeous golf course www.mtwoodson.com .  No temporary lodging here, however the lodging at SDCE is an easy 15 minute drive away.  Merely a 20 minute drive places you down the hill at the Barona Casino Resort.  Built by the Barona band of Indians, the Resort features a full fare of casino excitement plus restaurants and numerous hotel rooms.  www.barona.com will give you complete information on the casino as well as their outstanding golf course!
